I have just become aware of two databases that might be of interest. They really apply to Geosciences, possibly engineering and Health Sciences.

1) TOXNET - searches in 14 Databases on toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and toxic releases

2) Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS) - Identifies where various mineral resources are located throughout the world. This is fun to play around with. (There are over 7000 records for gold in Nevada. There are about 77 records for gold in Michigan, most in Marquette County.) It looks like you can export data to a GIS.
